A training workshop was held on 12 October on resilience in food systems in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Workshop participants included staff from The Forest Trust of the Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia offices.

In July, the work on the research project on tef in Ethiopia got published by the magazine Sight and Life.

The title of the article is: “Resilience in Food Systems”.

Our project on "Enhancing resilience in food systems" was presented by Jonas Joerin at a multi-stakeholder conference organised by the Innovation Forum from 22-23 March 2016 in London, UK, on external page"how to build supply security and resilience with smallholder farmers"call_made. In the session on "external pageSub-Saharan Africacall_made", Jonas discussed with other panelist about how to assess and build resilience of smallholder farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa. The event was visited by representatives of agri-industries and internationational organisations.

FEBRUARY

Our project on “Enhancing resilience in food systems” was presented by Johan Six at the 2016 AAAS Annual Meeting in Washington D.C. In the same session, Peter Edwards from ETH Zurich and Thomas P. Tomich from UC Davis, who are collaborating with us in our project, discussed about how to determine and build resilience in food systems. They demonstrated how to build resilience into existing food systems creating a higher level of food security using decision making models, big data, and information technology. Collaboration between industry, food innovators, and all those along the food value chain fosters resilience into the world's food systems – vital for dealing with the consequences of mass migration into urban areas that is taking place in many parts of the world.
